That moment, everything seem to go dark before his eyes. Even the illuminating effect of the bulb in the room became an object of darkness. "How come? How did fate bring her his way at this time?" Sweat began to form irregular droplets in his palm.
Confused as Soji was, he tried to hide his surprise behind a frown; "you are joking right?". Nearly bursting into her famous laughter, Cynthia shook her head in negation calmly. At this point, he knew a hot cup of twist and tale was brewing. Soji wanted to get the best of this time. 'Bar Man...", he shouted; "... get us a refill of our drinks."
In silence, they watched as the bar man refilled their glasses, hers with chilled Smirnoff Ice and his with his regular Budweiser. When he was done, she said "I met Sammie at a time I needed love the most. Sammie was already a year 2 student while I was about writing my 2nd WAEC exam after flunking the first. Sammie was a student of the Department of Economics at the University of Lagos but he had a flair for photography. So when I chose UNILAG as my choice institution, I decided to create a weekly schedule to walk round the school inorder to get intimate with the whole student environment. The only place I didn't attend was the lecture halls because I was afraid the lecturer would ask me a question I didn't have an answer to and I would look stupid..." Cynthia laughed as she took another sip from her bottle and looked up, trying hard to remember those funny pre-university moments. "... On one of those days,...", she continued her story, " ... I stepped in for my usual walks on campus. Sammie was there, dark skinned, always smiling and bringing high energy, you could call him 'Energy god'. Sammie walked up to me and asked if I wanted to snap shot because I kept looking at his camera. I told him I was just a girl and I obviously liked taking pictures. We started dating when I got to year 2 and he was in final year. He was patient when I asked for my space after he asked me out after my results came out."
"How then did you think he met Susan?", Soji was already getting impatient with the tales getting long like tails.
"They both met during their NYSC".
